You remember the ABS (Asset Backed Securities) conferences don't you? Well if you don't Eric and I covered the ABS West conference in Las Vegas this year which of course you can archive to on the right side of this page if you'd like (in February) . You see it used to be one of Wall Street's biggest conferences. Even if you couldn't spell ABS and somebody spotted you the "A" and "B" it was ok. You could come. For chrissakes, the conference had like 2000 "official" attendees yet about 10,000 people would show up just for the parties. And parties there were. Until of course the lights went out. Words like subprime and CDO became swear words and if you look at our video clip, its safe to say the 2008 ABS West Conference from Las Vegas didnt break any records for attendance.
Well you know what? Believe it or not they are having a 2008 ABS East! I cant even speak!! What are they going to talk about?!?! Who is going to go?!!? I think we at Monkey Business Blog must broadcast from this conference too! Maybe even sponsor it! What the hell can it cost? 20 bucks and 10 MonkeyBusiness T-shirts?
To add to the fun this was originally labeled as "2008 ABS East: Miami" from the storied Fountainbleu Hilton in Miami Beach. Well guess what? The hotel is closed! Due to "renovations". Are you kidding me?!? So now they are having it at some hotel in Hollywood, Florida! Thats right not Hollywood, California, Hollywood, Florida! Home of the blue hairs, the 4:30 early bird dinner specials, and the beautiful Hollywood Dog Track! People I cant make this stuff up. The glitzy South Beach is at least an hour away without traffic! How special! So I'm going to make my reservations now. Maybe get a dinner table at the "Fido Club" at the Dog Track for wagering VIPs, and bring my suntan lotion so I can sit poolside with a cool drink at my old Aunt Myra's pool. This is gonna be spectacular. Even better then Vegas! Get your tickets now! Or get them the day of, I dont think it'll matter. Oct 19th-22nd are the dates to save. A truly magical experience with maybe 14 of your closest friends.
