Remember in the Godfather II, when Michael Corleone confronts brother Fredo about his relationship with Hyman Roth and Johnny Ola and rival crime boss Don Barzini? And Fredo says, "They said there was something in it for MEEEEEE!" Then he goes on to talk about how he is smaht not dumb like people say. Well as a US taxpayer for awhile there it looked like we were getting a WORSE deal then Fredo in this mess! As in we were giving something up (money) and getting what could be nothing (or worse) in return.
Now Eric points out below that Paulson might be getting us a better deal a la Warren Buffett. We, as taxpayers, might get preferred shares in some of the banks we help. Seems like the Brits are going that way and Hammerin' Hank Paulson likes the idea. That makes me feel better and it should make you feel better too. To paraphrase Tom Hagen from the Godfather: Its now late 2008, nobody wants anymore bloodshed. Now back again by popular demand.
