......better to say nothing at all. About the economy anyway. The job report this morning was awful and I think very few of us are surprised. The fact that the average hourly work week fell again, now to its worst level since 1964, shows there's worse to come and the jobs report is a lot more than just a lagging indicator.
I will repost exactly what I wrote last year going into Independence Day weekend because I still believe it. We will overcome if we get to work on it, which I believe we will. (Good Lord I'm looking at this and I realize I'm still sitting at home writing a blog!).
Wow. If you told me last year that I would be sitting at home writing a blog now, as opposed to sitting on a trading desk I would have told you you were nuts! But it's all good. I know it's tough and getting tougher for everybody in this great country of ours, but we can take it.
- We beat the mightiest empire in the world to get our independence;
- We survived a Civil War that killed over 600,000 of us;
- We got through the Great Depression;
- We faced down the most evil bastards the world has ever seen in the 1940's and 50's;
- We've gotten through bad presidents, bad economies and bad hairstyles.
The USA, for it's faults and weaknesses (who the hell doesn't have faults and weaknesses), is the greatest nation the world has ever seen. Most importantly, we do it best when the chips are down. We'll get through this like we always do and come out the other side better for the experience. Anybody who shorts the USA will get their face ripped off, as they always have before.
Have a happy and safe Independence Day everybody. It's Miller time!!!
