Did you know that 8 is the luckiest number in China? Well you should. They own our country as of now. The esteemed University in New Haven, CT known as Yale knows 8 is the luckiest number today, too. My sources tell me a gent named Lei Zhang just dropped a cool $8,888,888 to Yale University to build a new business school campus. Mr. Zhang was a student at the Yale Business School also known as "SOM" (School of Management) and even worked with Yale's CIO, Dave Swensen, to help oversee the endowment investments. Zhang worked with Swensen when times were good and opened up his own hedge fund named Hillhouse Capital Management Ltd with a nice $2.5bn. Hillhouse being the name of the street where the business school is currently located, of course. I spent some interesting times on Hillhouse Avenue in the 80's and didn't all have to do with business. But that's for another time.
Zhang picked all 8's because he thought that would be very lucky, I assume. My people tell me they'll name a building after Mr. Zhang too when its all said and done. So bully (technical term that people with monocles and locked jaws usually scream at the country club that means good) for Yale! Maybe they'll ask me for less money next year. Maybe not. As we Bulldogs like to say, "For God. For Country. And For Yale!" And let me add, "For Rich Chinese Dudes Who Like Business". Now let me go play 888 on the daily number.
