Editor's Note--What? With the horse racing, the interleague baseball, the boxing, the NBA playoffs, and even the soccer and the golf, you didn't think Big D would bring something to the party?! Of course he would. Of course he would. This is how he earns all them dollars. This is why he lifts all them weights. There's action packed weekends. Then there's ACTION packed weekends. This is one of the ACTION packed weekends. Go forth Big D. Prosper. For all of us.--R.B.
Well Richie, this is some kinda weekend. The kind we like to make the loooooooong green on. Let's get it on.
Of the aforementioned sports in your Editor's Note we will pass on only the boxing and the golf this weekend. That still should provide something for all. Let's start with the soccer. Shall we? We shall.
The Greeks--not the Greek economy, that's your bag Richie--have a tough soccer team. And by tough we mean, they dont score a lot but they dont give up a lot either. Well come 12 noon eastern today (6 am in Hawai'i Aloha!) Euro 2012 kicks off! The Pesky Poles wont make it easy for the Greeks either. This all adds up to a nice easy tie. Maybe 0-0. Maybe 1-1. We get paid 2.4-1 for that. Thatsah nice. Draw.
On Saturday GERMANY lays a reasonable -115 versus Portugal. We like GERMANY to potentially win the whole tournament. Look for the Slavic/German MIROSLAV KLOSE to fill the net baby. Lay it Saturday pal with GERMANY.
Tonight the interleague baseball!! The battle of Florida looks to favor the well coached TAMPA RAYS. Sure the Marlins have picked up some steam since opening day but the RAYS seem to be that much better. And a slight underdog. Take pal. Take.
Also we've been riding the DODGERS of LA within "Big D's Inner Circle" (please dont ask how to join, you must be CHOSEN). And we will ride them all the way into Seattle tonight. Donnie "Baseball" Mattingly has those DAAAAH-JERS (as said like Big D pal, LA announcer Vin Scully), playing out of their heads without their best player Kemp. The train keeps rolling. In a pick em contest, as Uncle Chief Huge D would say, "We pick em DODGERS".
The basketball was a massacre last night in BOSTON. David Stern of the NBA got what he wanted though. A nice game by Lebron and a nice 7th game in South Beach Saturday night. The opening line is Miami -8 and the total is 179.5. The CELTS might go down, but they go down swingin. How about a nice "Stern ordered" Overtime Game 7 to round out your Saturday night? Too many pal. CELTICS and OVER baby, yeah.
Finally, at about 6:35pm eastern time Saturday, will be the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, "The Test of a Champion". And we have a potential Triple Crown chance!! Ya gotta love with all your heart the spunkiness of I'll Have Another and his thrilling last 3 races (yes he also won the Santa Anita Derby in fine fashion before the Kentucky Derby). But as longtime followers of Big D know, you don't make money betting with your heart. Sure we might buy a $2 Win ticket on the #11 just in case he does it......but here's the case against.
2 of the last 16 Belmont winners were the favorite. Not good odds for the favorite. The average winner the last 16 was at 21-1. The average exacta payout for $2 was $233. (and Big D dont bet no $2). This all stands in the face of a first look at this track for the favorite. For his trainer and jockey too. They don't call the Belmont oval "Big Sandy" for nothin. Many a talented horse has been lost in the last turn drifting outward, outward, outward. Which is why we tend to like those that have run here. And trained here. And rode here. That sets up the following:
#1 STREET LIFE Win-Place-Show. At 12-1 odds, this guy aint a huge longshot, but we expect this "somegun" to come chargin' like a bandit down the lane as he did on this track a few weeks ago in the Peter Pan Stakes. He came in 3rd in that race, but with a little more real estate, he might've won it. THIS race has more real estate. Like him for the upset special. Keep in mind, his daddy, STREET SENSE was a frequent winning choice by Big D in BIG races at similar odds, back in the day. Please pay attention.
#2 UNSTOPPABLE U in the exacta, tri, super 30-1. You say, "Big D you so crazy." Big D say SARAVA. He won at 70-1 ten years ago. You know who his trainer was? Ken McPeek. You know who is training this pony? Ken McPeek. Lightly raced but has won both times. Once here at Belmont. Hiya.
#12 MY ADONIS exacta, tri, super 20-1. Very late addition to this race. But hes got the king of all today's jockeys on his back, DOMINGUEZ. Local trainer BREEN, saw the entries and saw they were light. Figured he give it a shot. Why not? This guy can hang around with some juicy odds.
#3 UNION RAGS exacta, tri, super 6-1. This guy was THE man early in the year. Big D watched trackside as he crushed opponents in the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream. He's rested. He could come up big.
Folks have been saying "wiseguys say Dullahan or Paynter". Just remember this. There aint too many bigger wiseguys than Big D. The happy recap:
Today: POLAND/GREECE DRAW 2.4-1. Tonight: TAMPA RAYS+110 @ Miami, LA DODGERS pick @ Seattle. Tomorrow night? BOSTON+8 @ Miami, OVER 179.5. Tomorrow's Belmont: #1 Win, Place, and Show. #1-#2-#3-#12 Exacta, Trifecta, and Super Boxes. Good luck. God bless.
And just a little reminder, WAR EMBLEM was a 6-5 favorite to win the Triple Crown in 2002. Then some funny things happened. Would you be shocked, shocked I say, if a similar thing happened tomorrow? Well then run, dont walk to the windows with the above info. Enjoy the video and the weekend.
