Big D Says It's Been a Movember to Remember

Editor's Note--Ever hear the expression "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb"? Well that's kind of how it's gone this November. (Maybe not for your bookmaker). I, for one, won't forget it anytime soon. Especially that I have been growing a mustache to raise funds for men's health. They call it "Movember". Very catchy. Anyway, it comes off tonight, (the mustache) November 30. I thought about wearing it for the big horse racing contest tomorrow at the Borgata Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City, NJ, but it just didn't feel right. What does feel right is raising money for this "Movember" movement. Who is the best underdog in the league the last 2 years? Why it's the SEAHAGS of SEATTLE that's who! 11 out of 12 to be exact. That 3.5 points looks awfully low though in Chicago, doesn't it? But when you look at da Bears banged up offense, and the SEATTLE beefed up defense, it's too many pal. TAKE!

Another team riding a trend? The JAGWIRRRRRRES of JACKSONVILLE. They've covered every road game this year. They are at Buffalo. Buffalo lays 6. Buffalo's record their last 20 games? 5-15 friend. That's straight up. They've won 5 games out of 20 and they lay 6. Thanks bookmaker. We'll take again.

Finally, which direction are the Lions going? Down. Which direction are the COLTS going? Playoffs. Detroit is laying 4.5. Oh yeah? Cause they "almost" won against the Texans on Turkey Day? They might "almost" win this one too. Take the points bro. Take the points.

Big D: Always A Big Kahuna

Editor's Note--Ok. Ok. An off week for Big D. And by off week, I mean 3 wins and 3 losses. He started out good with his 2-1 in the college however. Speaking of the college, there are some very big games this week, no? Yes. Maybe Big D will have something to say about this. Maybe he'll have something else to say. Well Richie, 3-3 does not make us happy. In the least. What does make us happy is you, Richie B, will be participating in the $15,000 Borgata Horse Racing Contest this Saturday from the beautiful Borgata Hotel and Casino Atlantic City, New Jersey. We look forward to you winning the contest this Saturday (your 10th place finish out of 200 last time was VERY exciting), and winning the prize money AND the trip to Las Vegas to compete in the national championship of horse players. For those of you who can make it down to AC on Saturday, please come along and support the economy on the Jersey shore, who could use it these days.  The contest starts at noon and runs all day. Now on to the plays.

Well, yes, there are some very high profile games on Saturday. Games that will help decide the champions even. You know where we are going? AWAY from those games. To the more obscure games. Crazy like a fox we are.........

UCONN showing some moxie. Cincy showing some whatever. Last home game for the HUSKIES baby. Might even go to a bowl. They get 5.5? Too many pal. Too many. Take.

So when all the jokers and mortals "chase" (with their joker, mortal losses) the last game of the night by saying "Hawai'i is gonna kill them". You can be there to scoop that money. Cause you will be telling the bookmaker "SOUTH ALABAMA plus the 6 brah. A million times." Or something like that....

Editor's Note--Well it's the traditional Thanksgiving holiday. I don't know about you, but once again I'm having a ginormous feast. And I say this once again, because my wallet is absolutely bulging by following Big D's Picks. Again. Still. 5-1 last weekend in his selections!!! Sweet lobster fricasee! Today, because we got people moving around, and some games tomorrow, Big D, once again (still), will lay out all 6 of his selections on Thanksgiving Eve. And you will RUN, not walk, to your sports investment windows. Quick like. Big D, the floor is yours, so is your name. Well that was a snappy, 3-0 in the college last weekend right? Right. You liked how we sprinkled in the right calls with THE OHIO STATE, RICE, and RUTGERS? Yes you did. Well you know what? The bookmaker hasn't learned.

RICE and RUTGERS are getting 2 points each at utep and pitt respectively. Wanna know how many teams with winning records utep and pitt have beat this year? None. Do RICE and RUTGERS have winning records? Um, they are both going to bowl games. That means yes. RUTGERS at 10-1 might be going to a BCS bowl game. And they are dogs? Thanks bookmaker we will take.

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY is the best team you'll never see play in a bowl game. They are banned this year. They are 11-0 this year. They play archrival Michigan. THIS is THE OHIO STATE's bowl game. They lay 3.5? They win by 10 or more, pal. Lay it.

Now to the NFL. Without magicianry by the Pats, we wouldve had a perfect weekend in the NFL last week too. Again. Still. But 2-1 pays the bills friend. This week? It looks like 3-0 again baby.

Cowboys and Indians on Thanksgiving?!? How nice! Well REDSKINS anyway. WASHINGTON always gives Dallas trouble in Big D (the town, not the person, wiseguy). Cowboys aint back son. 3.5 is a nice gift. That we will be thankful for at Turkey Time. Pass the points and the gravy. Take.

Dunno about you but we dont try and fight trends. We encourage them. Jacksonville has played 10 games this year. You know how many they've covered? 5. You know where? On the road. So, ipso facto, the road team has covered ALL of the games when Jacksonville plays. The TENNESSEE "TUXEDO" TITANS are AT jacksonville sunday. That means they are the road team. They lay 3. Lay it pal. That's too good a trend.

Finally, Sunday is still November yes? NOT January right? Therefore, we will take GREEN BAY at the Giants getting a "mere" 2.5 points. Now if they play again in January, when it REALLY counts, you will see us with the g-men. Understand? Good. Take in the night game Sunday to round out your fancy lobster, turkey, and champagne weekend.

Big D Says NFL?! More Teardrops For Your Bookmaker

Richie, the NFL has provided some nice patterns thus far and we dont see that slipping anytime soon. There's some FABULOUS plays on this weeks card. We will give you 3 of em. Starting......NOW......

Dallas is back! Back to Dallas that is. Where they dont cover the spread a whole lot. They play the "stinky" BROWNS of CLEVELAND. The line is 8. That's a bunch. Especially when them Cowboys are a mere 2-10 as a home favorite. Take take.

Payton Manning went 3-13 his rookie year for the COLTS. Andrew Luck is 6-3 already in his rookie year for INDY. The "patsies" have trouble on defense. They are laying 9.5 points? 37-31 was the final score for the Pats last week? Sounds like it could be the final THIS week. And the COLTS could be the winners. Way too many pal. Take.

Finally, the highest over/under on the board is 54.5 with Oakland and New Orleans. Don't try and scare us bookmaker. BOTH teams could score 55 here. OVER pal. O-V-E-R.

Big D Majors in Studyin

Editor's Note--Not sure what to make of those losses on Saturday in the college. I, for sure, stood with mouth agape, as ARMY was tied 7-7 with 11 minutes to go and somehow lost 28-7, NOT covering the 18 point spread. Not happy times. Then on Sunday and Monday, the sage Big D smashes 3 winners on 3 selections. Happy times. Now lets see what this weekend brings. Today the college. Tomorrow the pros. Fire away oh sage one--R.B.

Richie, it does seem like our losses are so razor thin and our wins are "in the bag" early on, doesn't it? But like Paul Sorvino said in one of the most underrated movies of all time, "The Gambler", "They dont pay for halftime scores, Axel". To main character James Caan. About not giving some sob story about woulda, coulda, shoulda. So we don't cry in our soup. Or are history books.....

Speaking of history, who did ARMY lose to? Why it was RUTGERS. For some reason the 9-1 SCARLET KNIGHTS are now 6 point dogs to Cincy. RUTGERS wins this game, they are going to a BCS bowl. Not saying they will definitely win, but 6 points? Strong defense. Capable QB. Winning almost every week. Too many pal. Take.

You know who would be #1 in the land if they didnt have "NCAA isssues"? Why it would be THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. Yes sir. Did you know they are 10-0 and CANT go to a bowl? Well guess what? This week and next week ARE their bowls. And they get 3 points at Wisconsin? Are you jimjammin me? You arent? Good we will take with the perhaps best in the land BUCKEYES.

Finally, we are on this play like white on RICE. Since June Jones has coached Hawaii and smu wanna know how many times he's covered vs RICE? 0. 0 for 10. And the OWL said "Who?" RICE OWLS. That's who. With the 3.5 point gift at home for RICE from smu? We take baby.

Big D Says Nothin But Blue Skies

We thought we were in the bag for a winning week and the gambling gods threw us a few curves last week. Try to curve us on these picks. G'head.

New England has a great offense and a not so great defense. This is why they go OVER a lot. Buffalo has a so-so offense and a bad defense. This is why THEY go OVER a lot. When they play each other? It's fireworks. Don't try and scare us bookmaker with your "lofty" 51 point total. Last time these 2 played New England scored 45. In the second half!! OVER baby.

Speaking of, these aint your brother's Tampa Bay Bucs. 4 straight OVERs. 5 out of 6. San Diego be sinkin. They will be slingin. In regular times, a 47.5 total might scare people. These aint regular times. OVER in Tampa, pal. O-V-E-R.

Finally, the Chiefs haven't lead a game in regulation all season. That means they are bad. Pittsburgh, however is no great bargain when laying double digits. Which they are on Monday night on the shores of the Monongahela River (and 2 others, thus THREE Rivers, got it?). Big D puts that in his abacus, and it smells like one thing can certainly happen here. UNDER friend. UNDER.

Big D Plays Commander in Chief

Editor's Note--A very close to winning--but then a losing--weekend in the college football. A few winners in the Breeders Cup. It was just too bad MIZDIRECTION went from 20-1 to 6-1 by post time. But hey, an $80 winning exacta is nothing to sneeze at. And that's for a $2 wager, and as we know, Big D don't bet $2. We had an election where things didn't really change much. We just hope there's hope. Speaking of, we got Big D ready to get busy in the college football again. Goooooo!--R.B.

Well Richie, it wasn't the best week ever recorded, and this new storm that hit the northeast wasn't really necessary, but we move forward with an interesting 3 selections......

ARMY had a big win versus archrival AIR FORCE last Saturday on the shores of the Hudson River. Will make for a very interesting ARMY - NAVY game in a few weeks. Rutgers kinda going backwards after a great, great start. 17 points feels a little low, no? That's ok. We'll take the BLACK KNIGHTS of ARMY plus the points anyway.

Aforementioned AIR FORCE laid an egg last week, whilst San Diego State shocked Boise State. You didnt see that? Big D did. So did the oddsmaker. And he jacked this line from like 6 to 9.5. AIR FORCE always has some tough, tough guys who come back strong after losses. That's too many pal. Take the FALCONS of AIR FORCE.

Oh one of our favorite teams of all time, aforementioned NAVY is starting to roll. Once again. Bowl chances and all. Now they travel to Troy. The line is a pick em. Really? NAVY, a much better team here, boys, girls, and monkeys. We pick em THE MIDSHIPMEN of NAVY.

Big D Says We ARE Horsin Around

Editor's Note--I was actually very pleased to hear from so many of you yesterday and for those who are just tuning in, please read the previous post, as well as this one, down below, for some snappy plays in the horsie races today and tomorrow! In the real world, the rebuilding effort will be a tough one, but we'll get there. Anyhow, maybe you'll be able to watch some horse racing and NFL this weekend? That would be a good thing. An even better thing will be when you can't close your wallet. Big D whatchuuuu got?--R.B.

Well, Richie I'm glad you asked. Now enough with the small talk. Let's get down to brass tacks. And leather saddles......And touchdowns.

First, lets get the NFL winners. CARDS looked bad on Monday night eh? San Fran (both baseball and football!) has a way of doing that to teams. Some say "the pack is back". Not laying 11 points they aint. ARIZONA pal. That's waaaaaaaaay too many.

The Rayddddddddddduhs and the Bucs played long ago in a Super Bowl. Final score? 48-29. Prediction for Sunday? 48-29. That's OVER 45.5 isnt it? Yes it is. OVER baby.

Finally, in a game of inches, "how bout them COWBOYS" came a few shy of beating the g-men. The 6 turnovers also mightve had something to do with it. We bet BIG D (the team, not the person, wiseguy) will NOT have 6 turnovers Sunday night in hotlanta. We are well aware the Falcons are 7-0. They might go 8-0, but not without a fight to the end. 4 points looks awful funny friend. Take em with DALLAS.

Now on Saturday, we got about the best damn horse racing of the year. And we plan to cash in. Quite a bit. With selections as follows:

Big D Perhaps a Hopeful Distraction

Despite far too many unfavorable "100 year events" that seem to have happened in the last 20 years or so, we know someone who hasn't stopped writing, when the times looked the bleakest. And here he is for another "hopeful distraction" this week, Big D.--R.B.

We will second Richie's comments about thoughts and prayers here at Big Dick's Picks. We know many of you still don't have electricity back, and some might have just got it back, and we appreciate you tuning in. So why don't we start with some good news? You deserve it.

Hey did anyone say SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS?! You heard that?!? So did your bookmaker! Did you PRESS the wagers too? Like taking them in Game 3 and Game 4 like Big D said? ON TOP of your 8-1 "SF Giants to win 2012 World Series"?!?! You did?!? Bully for you. How great was that magical baseball season?! That was as good a type of thrashing, you will ever see. So much so that you miss it already, right? Well pitchers and catchers report to spring training in about 110 days. Start the clock baby. Start the clock.

The college football was a tougher 1-2 wknd but we got a remedy for that.

You know how in all the polls its #1 Alabama and then in some form the next 3 are Oregon, Notre Dame, and Kansas State? Well we leave Bama alone, for now, but let's just say this is usually the weekend where things get a "little funny" in college football. Like upsets. Or near upsets. So what are we gonna do? Why we'll take USC, PITTSBURGH, and OKLAHOMA STATE thank you very much. Who do they play? Why they play Oregon, Notre Dame, and Kansas State. What do they get? Why USC+7.5, PITT+16.5, and OK STATE +9.5. That's a whole lotta lumber from where we sit. Take pal. Take.

Oh hey, is there a horsie race tomorrow? Why there's a few. Its called the Breeders Cup. And its the all star meet of Horse Racing. And its Friday AND Saturday. The girls go Friday.
