Editor's Note--Hi. Ho. How goes it? There's a football game Sunday. "Super Baugh" "Har Bowl" "Bro Bowl I" catchy names like that. Big D always gives us surprises on Super Bowl Sunday. And by surprises, I mean cash in the wallet. And as you all know, this ISN'T always due to the football game! It could mean while you are enjoying your "pre-game" festivities, there's some roundball on the hardwood?! Hmmmmm??!? Take it away on the Super Day, Large Richard!!--R.B.
Ahhh the Super Bowl. The paegantry. The hoopla. The wagering. And of course, the DAYTIME basketball!!
Yep! The thing that everyone cares so much about? The bookmaker ALSO cares about. And posts some very difficult lines. In the daytime basketball? Well...... not so much. Here goes.
Louisville was #1 in the whole country in the college hoops a few weeks back. Then they lost 3 of 4. Lost all 4 vs the spread. Now they got MARQUETTE. Not a team that you want to play if you are REALLY trying to get "better". MARQUETTE also has covered 17 of 22 as a road underdog the last 4 years. The points will be generous. Take em.
In the NBA, the "lake show" has turned into the "swamp show". Meaning the Lakers are NOT your big brother's, father's, grandpappy's, or great-grandpappy's Lakers. They went 0 fer January on the road for the first time in their illustrious history. Now they are at DETROIT. Big D surmises that they will lay points cause, after all, they are "the Lakers". Um, we'll take those points. In MOTOWN. With the PISTONS.
Now THE GAME. We almost passed. "SACRELIGE!" You scream? Ok. Ok. We will do something. As we like to say, these games with the hype? Usually don't pan out to be soooo good. So in your minds, who do you think has the biggest chance to whup the other team? Like who has been involved in blowouts more this season? Why its the 49ERS. So they posted a little prop bet saying SF -7.5 +180. Which means if you laaaay MORE points then the regular 3.5 line, you get paid odds. +180 seems to fair odds for a game that could easily end with SF winning by 8 or more. We will go there.
And in the same vein, the total is 47.5 points. If we are gonna go with SAN FRAN, we gotta think they will score more than 28. Maybe 35. Well 52.5 points is 5 points higher than the regular over/under line. We get 2.1:1 to take THIS kind of over? We'll do it! More bang for our bucks if you will.
